JOEMCCOY WORLD

Joseph Gatting McCoy was a legendary Illinois cattle baron who served as the inspiration for The Real McCoy’s casual collection, Joe McCoy. For example, when admiring a vintage jacket, noting details like fabric and pocket placement will reveal the purpose of its production. Joe McCoy’s story has been passed down from generation to generation, while attitudes and methods of clothing manufacturing have remained constant.

Immigrants who crossed the Atlantic with a vision of building a better life in America brought a variety of cultures and traditions with them when they arrived in the new promised land. Differences in behavior and customs among the new immigrant groups created friction. However, within these cultural differences, a unique evolution began to take place. This new melting pot culture and labor demands paved the way for new and original lifestyles, including in the areas of clothing and music.

When discussing American history, the style and fashion of the 1950s epitomizes American culture. It was during this time that mass production met the growing consumer demand and new materials were developed and tested. However, the preservation of high quality and handcrafted production remained vital during this time, a fading feature in today’s American manufacturing.

So what does authentic American culture entail? It’s important to look closely at the conservative era of pre-war America. It was during this time that the first prototypes of clothing and products were created using natural materials like leather, wool, and cotton

When he was young, Hiroshi Okamoto worked at [POPEYE] magazine, where he was responsible for drawing magazine covers and illustrations and introducing various American military jackets. By chance, he produced a batch of A-2s and sold them out. Afterwards, he established THE REAL McCOY’S (old RM) and used this as a label (different from the new RM) to focus on reproducing high-quality World War II military uniforms. In the 1990s, RM added a branch brand: JOE McCOY (JM), which mainly produces American workwear represented by jeans. JM made up products based on real history and then reproduced them. He really did a good job. The hardware, threads, and fabrics are all top-notch, and the workmanship is exquisite. Old JM's jeans still enjoy a very high reputation. Together with EVISU and DENIME, they are called the "three major cow kings". It can be seen that RM had strict requirements for product quality at that time. However, the good times did not last long. In 2001, due to bill fraud and other issues, RM filed for bankruptcy at the Tokyo District Court. The debt was as high as 1.1 billion yen, and was subsequently taken over by NYLON. After several twists and turns, Okamoto Hiroshi chose to withdraw from RM. Several veterans of the old RM also became independent. JOE McCOY (JM) is the predecessor of REAL MCCOY. Nielsen (Asia Pacific) Co., Ltd. obtained the registration rights of the JOE McCOY trademark in mainland China.
